Remote cameras are a great way to get closer to nature and learn more about our wonderful wild species without disturbing them. We have a number of nest boxes and feeding stations for a variety of species and will live stream them seasonally when they are occupied or used. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates. Running the live streams requires expensive equipment, if you would like to sponsor any of our live streams please email lamara@mwt.im. We are grateful to our data partners, Manx Telecom, for providing 4g connectivity to our remote cameras.

Manx Shearwater Burrows Live From the Calf of Man

MWT have a long-term project in conjunction with Manx National Heritage to eradicate 'longtails' from the Calf of Man and attract Manx shearwaters back to nest on the Island. We're pleased to say the project is showing signs of success and numbers are steadily growing. Thanks to sponsorship support from Ramsey Crookall and 4g data connectivity provided by Manx Telecom we now have a camera in a nest box and another with an overview of the burrow entrances which you can watch live! The cameras are in a very remote location so power is provided by a solar panel.

With thanks to our sponsor, Ramsey Crookall, for funding the equipment to enable the Manx shearwater live feeds.

With thanks to our data partner, Manx Telecom, for providing the 4g data connectivity for the Manx shearwater feeds

With thanks to Manx National Heritage, who own the Calf of Man, for the kind permission to install the Manx shearwater cameras.

Swallow nest

The swallows are back from Africa!

Feeding Station

The feeding station is regularly visited by a wide range of garden birds including woodpeckers.

Beatboxing starling

A pair of starlings decided to nest in our swift box and we were lucky enough to catch the courting which included this nearly five minute long beatboxing session from the male. Can you spot all the different bird species that he mimics? We just love the way she just yawns indifferently at the end. However, they did go on to successfully fledge some chicks. Definitely 'sound on' for this one!

Great spotted woodpeckers on the feeding station

Our feeding station is visited by a large range of garden birds including house sparrows, blue tits, great tits, coal tits, chaffinches, goldfinches, greenfinches, and even a pair of great spotted woodpeckers. This year they successfully raised at least one chick, seen here with the large red cap (adult males have a smaller red patch at the back of the head) being fed by mum (no red markings on the head at all) from the peanut feeder.

MWT are grateful to Michael Howland for hosting our live streams and for his technical support with our web cameras. We are also grateful to Great Media Works and Silverthorne Communications for funding some of the equipment.
