Manx Wildlife Trust Winter 2025'26 Highlights

A year of nature, community and achievements!
IIEM25

Adam Morgan

The Inter-Island Environment Meeting in September'25 brought together conservation leaders from across the Crown Dependencies and UK Overseas Territories. This was the first time in it's 25-year history that it had been held outside of the Channel Islands and the sense of shared purpose was powerful. This conference proved that the Isle of Man can lead by example.

Award Ceremony

MWT and Manx National Heritage (MNH) jointly won the Media Isle of Man Award for Excellence for the Environmental or Sustainable Initiative of the Year. This recognition for the seabird recovery programme on the Calf of Man, made possible through the control of invasive non-native 'longtails', is a testament to years of hard work, science-led decision making, and an unwavering commitment to restoring one of the Island’s most precious wildlife havens.

Tiphaine Claveau Website

Last November, we celebrated the arrival of our first MWT baby! Our Education Officer, Rachel Martin, welcomed the adorable Nora - surely a future conservationist. We wish Rachel all the best during her maternity leave & are delighted to welcome Tiphaine Claveau (pictured), who will be covering the Education Officer role in the meantime.

Graham Makepeace-Warne

In September 25' MWT CEO, Graham, travelled to Paris with fellow CEOs and Chairs from across The Wildlife Trusts for the “Seeing is Believing” knowledge exchange trip. Seeing how other countries are creating urban biodiversity, green infrastructure & community-led nature initiatives was genuinely inspiring.

Merlin Hanbury Tenison Talk

We were delighted to be able to bring author Merlin Hanbury-Tenison to the Isle of Man last October to give a talk on his amazing book #ouroakenbones and his work to restore #temperaterainforest on his family farm in Cornwall. He spoke to a packed & fascinated Peel Centenary Centre, look out for similar speakers coming over next year.

A Forest New Year

In partnership with Lloyds Bank International & Milntown, we kicked off the Forest New Year by exploring the regeneration of the Isle of Man’s forests. Guided woodland walks, demonstrations, and talks from Graham (MWT CEO), Nigel Cheesley (Lloyds Country Head, Director & Sustainability Lead), & David (MWT Head of Conservation & Land) highlighted the deep connections between nature, wellbeing, & community.

Amy Howse Soundbath

This winter, our Nature Connect pilot returned to MWT Hairpin Woodland Park. Guided by Biosphere Artist in Residence Amy Howse and supported by our Woodland Rangers, service users focused on tuning into their senses and experiencing nature in new ways.
