MWT has a Master's intern!

MWT are thrilled to announce that Rachael Harrop, our Communications Officer, is now also MWT's student intern.

MWT are delighted to be able to offer Rachael Harrop (Rey), our Communications Officer, an MSc internship position alongside her current role. Rey will continue to work in MWT’s MarComms team 3 days a week whilst studying the other 2 days. Rey will be completing her master's through remote learning with Edinburgh Napier University and will be working towards an MSc in Wildlife Biology and Conservation. Before joining MWT Rey completed her BSc in Environmental Science with the Open University, so is no stranger to remote learning.

Leigh Morris, MWT CEO, said, "We are delighted that Rey is embarking on her MSc. Rey joined MWT in March 2020 and has become an exceptional member of the MWT team, by helping us take our digital and wider communications to a far higher level, and engage lots more people in the IOM about #ManxNature. MWT are aiming to provide Rey with a fantastic student placement (if Carlsberg did student placements this will be it!) and we are greatly looking forward to Rey carrying out her MSc projects on Manx related topics. It will be fantastic to have a high-quality post-graduate student in our team and I am looking forward to the results and engagement she will bring to MWT and the IOM."

Rachael said "I have loved working for MWT since joining the team last year, the staff all have such a vast wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for Manx Nature I find myself learning something new every day.

This internship is a fabulous opportunity for me, to be able to embark on my master's with the support of some of the Island’s conservation experts will give me invaluable experience and access to a deep pool of knowledge and skills across a plethora of habitats and species. I look forward to seeing how my MSc projects can link in with Manx conservation topics and getting stuck into my first module ‘Humans and Wildlife!"

Leigh continued "Supporting local young people on their career development is something MWT agreed in 2020 was a core aim of our strategy, and we’re aiming for Rey to be the first of many students we support."

Keep an eye out for Rey’s blog as she progresses through her course which will be published on our website and you can now also follow her on Twitter (@rachael_harrop) for more regular updates from MWT work to MSc study and her sheeping adventures too!
