About the event

Carmel was CEO of Parque Das Aves a bird park and conservation centre near Iguassu Falls, Brazil, from 2014 to 2024. During her time there, she was closely involved in conservation projects protecting some of Brazil’s most threatened bird species.

The Atlantic Rainforest has lost more than 90% of its original forest cover, much of that loss occurring within living memory. The region is home to an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, but many species are now at risk.

This talk will explore the work of Parque das Aves, which welcomes nearly one million visitors each year, and its efforts to protect Brazil’s threatened birds and the habitats they depend on.

Come along and discover the challenges, and the conservation successes, behind protecting one of Brazil’s most important ecosystems.
