O Vannin Veg Veen, Dear Little Island: A Community Postcard Project
Welcome to the Postcard Project, a community arts project by Biosphere Artist in Residence Alice Dudley.
What is it?
'O Vannin Veg Veen', meaning Dear Little Island in Manx, is an interactive arts project which encourages creative exchanges between pairs of artists working together on the same postcard.
Celebrate the ten year anniversary of our Island's status as the First Entire Nation Biosphere by collaborating with another artist to create a shared postcard - one artist designs the front, and the other writes the message.
Who can take part?
Everybody! This is an open call to all artists, writers, poets, photographers, illustrators, songwriters and more. This project is open to all ages and abilities, from established artists to budding creatives.

How does it work?
For our collaborative postcards, artists and writers will be paired together to each design one side of a postcard.
Artists interested in drawing, painting, illustration, photography, printmaking and any other forms of visual art will be able to design the front of their postcard in their chosen style. Next, they will be paired with a writer who will fill in the back of the postcard with a written piece inspired by their artwork.
Writers interested in poetry, songwriting and creative writing will also be able to submit their own written piece on their postcards. Next, they will be paired with an artist who will design the other side of the postcard with artwork inspired by their writing.

How can I take part?
Our postcards are available for free at our Manx Wildlife Trust shops in Peel and Douglas, and will also be available at MWT events and workshops throughout the Summer.
If you want to take part in a collaborative postcard with another artist, pick up one of our blank postcards. Decide if you would like to design the 'Front' or 'Back' of your postcard, and get creative! Create your masterpiece, either visual art or a written piece, using any materials and any theme you like. If you are feeling stuck, some useful themes to inspire you could be:
- Manx Landscapes
- Manx Wildlife
- Manx Marine Life
- Manx Folklore
- Manx Language
Our Biosphere Artist in Residence Postcards
Our Biosphere Artist in Residence, Alice, has designed a range of postcard messages using lyrics from the songs she has written during her residency. To collaborate with Alice, pick up one of her postcard designs and read the message, then create your own design for the front of the postcard, using any materials you like.
You could sketch, doodle or paint directly onto your postcard, take photos and stick them on, or try your hand at a collage using found materials - as long as your final piece uses the original postcard.
When you have created your masterpiece, you can submit your postcard by dropping it off at the Postcard Stations found at the Douglas and Peel Manx Wildlife Trust shops. You can also post it back to us at:
Manx Wildlife Trust Head Office, 7-8 Market St, Peel, IM5 1AB
