Job reference: Community Ranger

Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) looking for a motivated and thoughtful Community Ranger to help connect people across the Isle of Man with nature, and support communities to take action for wildlife.

This role is about working alongside people - building relationships, supporting ideas, and helping communities take ownership of spaces for nature. You will be a strong facilitator and communicator, able to bring different people together, work in partnership, and turn ideas into practical action on the ground. A genuine passion for wildlife and a desire to make a difference are essential.

At the heart of the role is The Wildlife Trusts’ #TeamWilder approach - supporting and enabling people to take meaningful action for nature as part of the communities they are part of. These communities may be based on place, shared interests, workplaces, schools or networks, and the role is about helping people feel confident, connected and able to play their part in nature’s recovery.

This is a key role for MWT, delivered in partnership with Lloyds Bank International. The Community Ranger post has been established on the Island for the past four years, forming part of a strong and ongoing partnership focused on community engagement, sustainability and positive action for nature.

The role plays a central part in delivering MWT mission to protect and enhance our environment, create more spaces for wildlife, and inspire people to act for nature, through community-led action and engagement.

You will lead and support volunteer groups, organise events and activities, and develop projects that bring nature into everyday life, particularly in and around Douglas, Onchan, Ramsey and Peel. Key locations include Hairpin Woodland Park, Onchan Wetlands, and MWT’s Nature Discovery Centres.

Working as part of the wider MWT team, and closely with Lloyds Bank International, you will also contribute to communications, public engagement campaigns and the development of community-led conservation and citizen science initiatives.

The role combines practical delivery, relationship-building, communications and project development, with a strong emphasis on engaging new and diverse audiences. You will be supported to train in The Wildlife Trusts’ community organising methodology (#TeamWilder), applying this approach to help grow a movement for nature across the Island.

This is a full-time, fixed-term role offered on an initial one-year contract, with the aim of making the post permanent subject to funding and the continued success of the programme. Flexible working is required, including weekends and evenings, and the role will suit someone who enjoys working with people, can build trust within communities, and wants to play a hands-on role in supporting people to take meaningful action for nature and contribute to nature’s recovery across the Isle of Man.
