Manx Wildlife Trust is delighted to invite you to the final event in our Biosphere Artist Residency series, hosted by Amy Howse, our Artist in Residence. This inspiring event brings together sound, nature, and creativity in a multi-sensory celebration of the Isle of Man’s UNESCO Biosphere status.

Premiere of "Sonisphere: The Hidden Score"

What to Expect:

A powerful and immersive audio-visual piece, combining sound recordings of the Island’s unique natural soundscapes, biophony (wildlife), geophony (natural forces), and anthrophony (human presence) with voices from our community, plant sonification, and stunning visual footage of the Manx landscape.

Photosymphony

Watch in wonder as plants “sing” through real-time biofeedback technology, creating a live plant sonification performance enhanced by meditative sound bath instruments. A truly atmospheric experience for the senses.

Taste the Wild

Enjoy a botanical drink and foraged nibbles on arrival, shared in a space that celebrates nature, wellbeing, and human connection.

Amy Howse is a sound artist whose work explores the relationships between people, place, and the natural world. As the Manx Wildlife Trust’s Biosphere Artist in Residence, her residency projects use immersive sound experiences that inspire reflection, connection, and a deeper appreciation of our Biosphere; through collaboration with conservationists, our Island community, and professional audio-visual teams to explore and interpret the Island’s Biosphere status through the lens of sound, using listening as a pathway to a deeper connection with nature.

The Biosphere Artist Residency is a Manx Wildlife Trust initiative supported by UNESCO Biosphere and The Isle of Man Arts Council. It was created to celebrate the Isle of Man’s status as a UNESCO Biosphere, the only entire nation in the world to hold this designation. The residency supports artists in exploring themes of sustainability, biodiversity, and cultural heritage through art, helping to inspire community engagement.

This residency has been an opportunity to listen more deeply to the land, to our Community, and to ourselves. By working with sound as a bridge between people and nature, my hope is to create moments of connection that not only support individual well-being, but also nurture a more caring and sustainable relationship with our Biosphere.
Amy Howse
Artist in Residence
Amy’s residency aimed to explore new and imaginative ways of engaging with nature, and it has more than delivered. Her work has opened up fresh perspectives on how we connect with the natural world, with one another, and with ideas of well-being and environmental responsibility. It has inspired new thinking across our Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, our communities, and within Manx Wildlife Trust itself. That’s the true mark of an outstanding residency.
