The Young Nature Blogger initiative is a collaboration between Manx Wildlife Trust, UNESCO Biosphere Isle of Man and Isle of Man Newspapers.

Bloggers aged 21 and under can write about their favourite animal, bird, plant or outdoor space.

The best blogs will have their work published by Isle of Man Newspapers.

Bloggers may take inspiration from well-known young nature bloggers like Dara McAnulty, 16, who gave a talk in the Isle of Man last year as part of Manx Wildlife Week and has this year published his first book.

The 16-year-old from Northern Ireland has appeared on national TV and radio and has been recognised by the likes of television presenter Chris Packham.

Geoffrey Boot MHK, Minister for Environment, said: ‘We have a wealth of natural wonders right on our doorstep. Getting out into nature is good for us and summer is the best time to explore. I hope our talented young bloggers will share their thoughts on their favourite special species and places.’

Leigh Morris, CEO of Manx Wildlife Trust, said: ‘Engaging with young people on nature is an important part of our strategy. Writing and illustrating are some of the best ways to better understand and appreciate the wonderful wildlife and wild places that we are so lucky to enjoy in the Isle of Man.’

Blogs should be 500 words or fewer and can be illustrated with photos or drawings.

They should be sent to Biosphere@gov.im

Photos will need to be at least 1MB to be considered for publication in the newspapers, so retain the originals if shrinking them down to send them in.

The closing date to send in blogs is August 31 2020.
