Pollution incident at Summerhill Glen

There has been a pollution incident at Summerhill Glen, resulting in the death of many freshwater fish and invertebrates.

Yesterday, Dawn Colley, MWT Education and Biodiversity Officer, was at Summerhill Glen in Douglas with a school group for an outdoor education session. The children had just started stream dipping when they came across several dead fish. Dawn got the kids out of the stream immediately and made sure they washed off anywhere that had come into contact with the water.

Upon further inspection Dawn found 60+ dead fish and numerous dead invertebrates.

The Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA) were called and made aware of the incident. They responded quickly, sending out a team to conduct water tests.

DEFA are now looking into the pollutant and the origin, We look forward to finding out more information about the cause and will update this page then.
