A new User Guide to Manx Marine Wildlife has been launched through a partnership between Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT), Manx Whale and Dolphin Watch (MWDW), and the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture (DEFA).
Designed for anyone enjoying the Island’s coastline and surrounding waters, the guide offers clear advice on how to safely observe and enjoy marine wildlife, along with the best locations and times of year for sightings.
The guide outlines recommended safe distances for various coastal users, including drone operators, paddleboarders, walkers, and boat users. It also highlights key hotspots around the Island where seals, dolphins, whales, and other species are frequently seen. In addition to practical guidance, the resource encourages the public to report sightings, contributing to marine research and conservation efforts.
Available to download online here, printed copies can also be picked up from the MWT shop, the MWDW information centre, and the Welcome Centre at the Sea Terminal, with more distribution points to follow soon.
This guide has been made possible thanks to the generous legacy of the late Neil Barron, a passionate advocate for wildlife whose support continues to benefit marine conservation on the Isle of Man.
