The Engagement Intern supports the delivery of MWT’s engagement, education, and communications work, helping to connect people strongly with nature and encourage positive environmental action.

The role provides structured training in public engagement, environmental communication, digital content creation, and event delivery and directly supports MWT’s mission to “inspire people to act for nature.”

The intern will contribute directly to MWT’s engagement ambitions and the wider Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere Reserve objectives.

Manx Wildlife Trust is offering a number of internship opportunities as part of its growing internship programme, designed to support early careers in conservation, engagement and environmental work. Based within the Isle of Man UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, these internships provide a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience while contributing to meaningful conservation and community engagement. The Engagement Intern is one of four internship roles available and focuses on connecting people with nature through events, education and communications.

What you’ll be doing

  • Supporting public events, guided walks, school sessions and community outreach
  • Helping create and share content for social media, website and newsletters
  • Assisting with displays, interpretation and educational materials
  • Engaging with visitors, members, schools and volunteers
  • Supporting campaigns and initiatives such as #TeamWilder
  • Contributing to events, shows and wider MWT activities

This is a collaborative role within the Engagement Team, with opportunities to work across the organisation and alongside other interns.

Accommodation and support

Interns are provided with shared residential accommodation at Thie Vunn in Peel, a comfortable base close to MWT headquarters and the Island’s west coast.

You will also have access to:

  • An e-bike for travel
  • All necessary equipment and training
  • A structured internship programme with peer support

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, enthusiastic and confident engaging with people
  • A clear communicator with a creative approach
  • Interested in nature, conservation and community engagement
  • Organised, reliable and willing to get involved
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

No formal qualifications are required - this role is about attitude, curiosity and a willingness to learn.
