Education Officer (Part Time)
This role plays a key part in delivering a nature education entitlement to all Year 5 children on the Island under a DESC/DEFA Education Contract. The role is focused on making biodiversity, conservation, wildlife, and the environment relevant to young people, championing MWT’s conservation work, and inspiring children and young people across the Isle of Man to connect more strongly with nature.
The role is part-time, working 5 hours per day (normally 9:30am to 3pm, with half an hour for lunch) for up to 3 days per week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only). This role is based at the Outdoor Learning Centre in West Baldwin, therefore own transport is required.
The postholder will work closely with the Education Officer, to whom they will report, and support delivery during designated teaching periods in Spring 2026 and Autumn 2026.

Part-Time Education Officer (Schools)

Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) is seeking a passionate and motivated Part-Time Education Officer (Schools) to inspire the next generation about nature, wildlife, and conservation.
In this role, you’ll help deliver outdoor and classroom-based learning sessions for schools, working from the Outdoor Learning Centre. You’ll play a key part in connecting young people to the Isle of Man’s unique biodiversity and supporting the entitlement to quality environmental education for all Year 5 students on the Isle of Man under a DEFA/DESC contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, curriculum-linked environmental education sessions as part of the Laa Feie Manninagh (Manx Wild Day) nature education entitlement for all Year 5 pupils.
- Create safe, inclusive and inspiring learning experiences in outdoor and classroom settings.
- Contribute to the development of education resources and materials as needed.
- Act as an ambassador for MWT when engaging with schools, teachers, and pupils.
Contract Details
- Fixed-term, part-time (5 hours/day, standard 9:30–3pm with lunch break, up to 3 days/week).
- Based at the Outdoor Learning Centre in West Baldwin, therefore own transport is required.
- Contracted delivery periods:
- Spring 2026: 21 April – 21 May
- Autumn 2026: 8 September – 22 October (TBC)
- Applicants may apply for one period only, but preference may be given to those available for both.
- Pay: £20/hour (18.46 plus 8.33% rolled up holiday pay) up to a maximum of £100 per day (5 hours of work)
Person Specification
We’re looking for someone with:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to inspire young learners.
- Experience in teaching, outdoor learning, or environmental education.
- Knowledge of local wildlife and conservation issues.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varied conditions.

Full driving license (preferred) or own mode of transport to the Outdoor Learning Centre, which is currently not accessible by public transport.
- An enhanced DBS check will be required.
- Desirable: teaching or conservation qualifications, First Aid training, and familiarity with the Manx Curriculum.
