Meet the team - trustees

Simon, who is originally from the Isle of Man, read modern languages at university and then became a lawyer. He worked in Liverpool and South Yorkshire before returning to the Island where he became a partner in the Island's largest firm, Appleby, where he practised corporate and finance law for over 20 years. He has five sons and almost as many boats and also enjoys sailing and the outdoors.

Magnus Grinneback was born in Sweden and developed an interest in nature from an early age, growing up in a family that spent holidays and weekends walking, sailing, fishing and foraging across Scandinavia. He moved to the Island in 2018 after spending many years in Malta, Malaysia and China. He holds a MSC in Electrical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and has spent his career in different industries ranging from Management Consulting to eGaming and Scuba Diving. Magnus’ focus is on MWT’s strategy and commercial opportunities, and he is the Chair of Wildlife Ltd (which is the subsidiary of MWT that operates its commercial initiatives).

When not doing board work Magnus is often seen running or biking around the Island or in the small whisky distillery that he helped found in 2019.

Dr Rachel Glover is the Chief Scientific Officer at Taxa Genomics, a Manx company providing DNA testing services to the environmental and veterinary industry. After originally training as a molecular microbiologist she spent fourteen years at the UK Government’s Food and Environment Research Agency (FERA) in the Detection and Surveillance Technologies team, developing and validating DNA tests for the statutory diagnosis of pathogens. With the advent of the latest genomic sequencing technologies she led the agency’s genomic analysis offering as lead computational biologist. Her research interests include genomic epidemiology, biodiversity informatics and improving metagenomics and metabarcoding methods for species detection. She was born and raised on the Isle of Man and returned to the Island in 2017.

Having been a member of the Young Ornithologists at the age of eleven, being outdoors and enjoying the countryside has always been a passion. Indeed my favourite bolt hole, whenever I get the opportunity, is the RSPB reserve at Minsmere and enjoying the wonderful Suffolk coastline. 

Never, however, has fauna, flora and wildlife been under more threat and that includes here on the Isle of Man.

I feel privileged to be able to offer my support as Treasurer to the Manx Wildlife Trust, which is doing an incredible amount of work to support our fabulous environment, and who need as much help as we, as a community, can give them.

My background is 40 years in financial services experience, which has seen me in senior management roles across several major banks, working across a wide spectrum of sectors and having held director-level positions in various subsidiary businesses for banks.

I moved to the Isle of Man in 2007 having previously worked in London, Cambridge, Bristol and Guernsey – and the Isle of Man is now home especially as my four grandchildren have been born here.

Paul is Manx born and bred with a long-standing love for nature and the protection of the environment.  As well as being a qualified Field Guide of Southern Africa and a Climate Reality Leader, he has a well-established business background in project management and finance and is currently Head of Portfolio Management Office in the Business Change Services Division of Isle of Man Government, Cabinet Office.  As a Trustee, he will work to ensure that Manx Wildlife Trust achieve their strategic objectives by supporting the planning, delivery and governance of initiatives, which he hopes will mean that his young sons Jesse and Joel, and all future generations, will be able to experience the wonder of nature that the Island has to offer. 

Karen is a retired Chartered Management Accountant who first moved to the Island in the late 1970s as a teenager. She completed her education at CRHS before doing a degree in Accounting & Finance at Lancaster University. After graduation she worked in London and Surrey before heading north in 1990. She now divides her time between Cheshire and the Isle of Man.

She began her accountancy career in the private sector, but for the last two decades has worked for the NHS in Greater Manchester. 

She is an enthusiastic photographer and suffers lens envy whenever she meets some of the incredible wildlife photographers on the Island. She also thinks that she must be the only person who has not seen Moonlight and Starlight, but she lives in hope.

She was appointed as a Trustee in 2025 and is also a member of the Finance Committee. Whilst she loves the beauty of the Manx countryside, her favourite place on the Island is behind the till of the MWT Douglas Sea Terminal shop, which is entirely run by volunteers. 

Kim is General Counsel at an online social gaming business based in the Isle of Man. She is passionate about sustainability and believes that there is a critical role for all lawyers, and particularly in-house lawyers, to help company boards deliver on net zero targets and advise on wider sustainability and ESG matters. 

Prior to moving to the Isle of Man, Kim has worked in both the gaming and financial services sectors for the last 15 years in Gibraltar, London and Singapore. Her interest in the environment stems from a university education in science. 

Greg has extensive experience in sustainable economic development and education sector governance. Following a career in architecture, to Board/Owner level, he held key roles in Cornwall, including Head of Investment and Growth for Cornwall Council and Head of Design, Decarbonisation, and Environment for their sustainable investment and development company, Treveth. He is now Housing Investment & Development Lead in the Manx Government’s Department of Infrastructure.

As an architect, in Bristol and then London, Greg built considerable expertise in sustainable design and project delivery, particularly of housing, that took him to Cornwall in 2010; initially to manage the planning and design of what was to become the West Carclaze Garden Village. He went on to lead the delivery of two projects that won Cornwall Sustainability Awards, one at the Eden Project and the other as part of the Garden Village. He then secured the Carbon Neutral Award for Treveth in 2023. He returned to the Island in January 2025, where he has lifelong family connections and started his architectural career. He’s a keen motorcyclist and is also a Trustee of the Peel Cathedral Quarter Trust, supporting development plans to be a net zero exemplar church.

Stephen is a Chartered Safety Practitioner, and founder of a consultancy company listed on London’s Alternative Investment Market.  He is also a Registered Expert Witness advising on workplace safety in both civil and criminal cases. Stephen is a long-time visitor to the Isle of Man and became resident in 2021, moving from Kent. He has extensive experience as a Trustee working under UK Charity Commission rules and guidance. This includes having chaired Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats for a number of years and currently chairing the Finance & Resources committee of a charity that provides residential adult care. His personal passions encompass all things related to nature and conservation, and he is a National Trust Patron. Sporting interests have included directorship of a company that raised funding to get a driver into Formula 1, and former ownership of a football team recently promoted to the Women’s Super League. Stephen hopes that his wide exposure to a range of business challenges and opportunities, coupled with his extensive UK Trustee experience, will add value to MWT’s Council.
