Alex's Blog

Hi, folks! Welcome to my blog.

My name is Alex and I am a Woodland Ranger for Manx Wildlife Trust. My role involves managing the MWT Tree Nursery at Milntown Estate and Gardens as well as providing and facilitating engagement opportunities at Hairpin Woodland Park in Ramsey.

As a native Californian, I received my B.Sc in Wildlife and M.A in Biology with a focus on community-based conservation. I've been around plants and animals my whole life and around the world. Whether working with cheetahs in South Africa, tortoises in the Galapagos Islands, or succulents in my mom's garden, nature is part of me (and part of you!)

No day is the same and every day is a school day. I'm excited to welcome you on my learning adventure.

Seed sowing for trees can be done in either a flat bed tray (shown here) or a root trainer tray. Today, I'm sowing seeds in a tray using the "broadcast" method. Broadcasting is best used with smaller seeds where you gently tap the seeds from your dominant hand onto the top of the compost.
