About the event

The more people we get the more we can plant! The new project is on a 100 acre continuous site and envisions the planting of ca 30,000 saplings over five years. The area is prone to frequent fog and over the decades and centuries the trees will form a temperate rainforest. The land is owned by the Manx Wildlife Trust, providing certainty of protection. A public footpath meanders through the site. The site is part of the river catchment of East Baldwin so the trees you plant will improve the water quality of the island's capital.

First timer or experienced, single persons or small groups, you can just rock up without prior contact. We are going to show newcomers our method of planting trees. It is okay if you come a bit late or need to leave early.

The plantings tend to last two to three hours and we share coffee and tea afterwards. A basic field toilet is available on site.

As rain is possible, please wear waterproof, warm clothing that can get some dirt on it and sturdy shoes.

Plantings usually go ahead in light rain and strong winds unless the conditions are deemed totally unbearable. Please see Isle of Man Woodland Trust Facebook page for last-minute changes, including weather disruptions

Travel time by car is about 15 minutes from Douglas. The last ~ 500m of the road is uneven so we recommend slowing down.

Please park in the silage storing area. Don't block the drives and park close together. Ride sharing is encouraged as usual.

The planting site is ca 15 minutes walk from the planting area, one of our volunteers is going to greet people and point them in the right direction until ~10:45. Watch out for signs with arrows if you arrive later. If you are uncertain how to find us on the day, contact us via phone 439959.
