Trustee Vacancies: An opportunity to achieve positive outcomes for Manx nature

Online MWT stratagy workshop, on zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions

Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) is the leading nature conservation charity in the Isle of Man (IOM) with an office in Peel, visitor centres in the north and south and a network of nature reserves across the Island. We are a completely independent Manx Charity (Manx Registration #225) and a member of the Federation of Wildlife Trusts across the British Isles. The IOM is a jewel of nature located in the middle of the Irish Sea and the whole Island is designated as a UNESCO Biosphere.

We're looking for new members for both our Council of Trustees and our Strategic Committees to help drive the delivery of our vision of the Isle of Man’s land and waters rich in wildlife, where nature matters to all and our mission, to protect and enhance our environment, create more spaces for wildlife, and inspire people to act for nature.

Our new Trustees will input strategically into our organisation, to help us to achieve even more impact.  Your input and influence will support our Team of staff and volunteers, and champion our work, helping to make a positive difference to the future of nature and the environment in the IOM and the wider British Isles.

We want to hear from anyone who believes they have time and skills to offer us, but we are especially keen to acquire experience in the following specific areas:

  • Conservation ecology – terrestrial and/or marine.
  • Digital communications.
  • Operational and business management.
  • Membership development and public engagement.
  • Income generation, including fundraising & retail.

In our recruitment we are also keen to find individuals who would be willing and able to Chair our strategic Committees/Groups and one person to take on the role of Vice-Chair of the Council and therefore be our next Chair from the end of 2021.

We are keen that the bulk of our Trustees are based in the IOM, however, we are also eager to hear from people across the British Isles who would be interested  in joining us. These may be Manx people now based in the UK, or ecologists who have a particular interest in the IOM/Irish Sea. Trustees appointed who are not based in the IOM would be required to join most meetings via an on-line platform and potentially one meeting per year in person. These Trustee roles are unpaid.

We are committed to developing a Council that benefits from a diverse approach to discussions in order to inform and develop our work.  We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and are particularly interested in applications from people who represent the Island’s diverse community.

Please refer to the Role Descriptor linked here for full details of the role.

Our Chair, Viv Davies, would be delighted to discuss and/or answer any questions about the role with potential applicants. Email: chair@mwt.im

Applications, in the form of a CV and letter highlighting your motivations and relevant experience for the role of a Trustee, must be sent to Leigh Morris, CEO, Manx Wildlife Trust. Email: leigh@mwt.im

Closing date for Applications Friday 29th January 2021
